D-Link began the shipping of its DSM-750 MediaLounge Player, a device designed to resemble a wireless Media Center Extender, enabling users to
easily transfer videos, music, images, and other types of data stored on a Windows Media Center PCs to different locations in their house without getting tons of cables all around the place. DSM-750 features an included remote control through which it can locate media content on the home network of the user and also can get access to a television set.
As a single Media Center PC can support as much as five media players, users can access media content stored on their PC regardless their location in the house, either by using the entertainment center situated in the living-room or any TV from a den, a game room or a bedroom. DSM-750, as well as other similar media extenders, has been designed to provide users with the opportunity of directly downloading photos, videos, or other type of multimedia content, directly from Internet sources, then easily access the files from anywhere around the house.
"This powerful Extender for Windows Media Center not only provides an elegant way to enjoy your local media, but changes the way we navigate and view the Internet," said D-Link senior director of marketing Daniel Kelley, in a statement.
DSM-750 incorporates 802.11 draft-n Wi-Fi wireless networking device allowing media streaming, as well as 100Base-T Ethernet, and USB ports that allow it to display files stored on media cards or other devices that use a USB connection. This Media Center Extender supports Composite, Component, S-Video, and HDMI video output, as well as optical and coax digital audio output.
The list of media file types that DSM-750 can play is not short at all. It supports audio formats as MP3, WAV, WMA, and Ogg Vorbis, image formats as JPEG, PNG< TIFF, GIF, and BMP images, along with WMV9, MPEG, MPEG-4/H.264, AVI, and DVR-MS video formats. Windows Media Player 10 DRM is also supported, just as to complete the feature list of a Media Center Extender D-Link offers its users.
