Cyndi Lauper remains one of the coolest people ever. While at the Buenos Aires airport and learning that the flight had been canceled, the singer did her part to calm down passengers – with an awesome impromptu performance.

Granted, Cyndi may not be the first artist to put on a surprise performance, but she does get lots of extra points for helping airport staff keep the situation under control.

“Singer Cyndi Lauper put her talents to good use at an Argentine airport this weekend (05-06mar11) by serenading a frenzied crowd over the public speakers,” Contact Music reports.

The video below, embedded at the end of the article, will confirm that, indeed, Lauper’s performance was received wonderfully by passengers and airport staff alike.

“The 1980s pop star grabbed a microphone at Jorge Newbery Airport in Buenos Aires to belt out her hit Girls Just Want to Have Fun for passengers frustrated by delays,” the aforementioned e-zine says.

“And Lauper’s impromptu performance worked – footage of the incident shows the star surrounded by happy fans, singing along and snapping photos of their idol,” Contact Music says.

As noted above, Cyndi is not the first celebrity to surprise passengers like this. Back in November last year, Kanye West did the same, when he performed the clean version of one of his songs for passengers of Delta Airlines.

Kanye was flying first class from Minneapolis to NYC and he somehow made his way in the cockpit, from where he addressed the passengers through the speakers.

Because he couldn’t decide between “Gold Digger” and “The Good Life,” he did bits of both, making sure to leave out all words that may cause offense to more sensitive ears.

While this unexpected mid-air performance helped Kanye shut up some of his critics who were constantly on his back for his massive ego and horrible personality, Cyndi Lauper’s little stunt only confirmed that she’s indeed one of the nicest persons in showbiz.

Check her out, doing her bit to make upset passengers pass the time more merrily.
