The development team at CD Projekt working on Cyberpunk 2077 says that it will add extensive customization options for the player character in their upcoming game and that it is creating an entirely new dialog system to handle the complex story.

Sebastian Stepien, the creative director working on the project, tells IGN that, “We will have several features that allow you to create your style, and your style will affect gameplay, storyline and relationships between characters.”

The way the player choose to dress in Cyberpunk 2077 will change how various characters react and gamers will have to try and harmonize their stylistic choices with the answers they give when they are talking to NPCs.

By comparison, Geralt of The Witcher game had a set personality and CD Projekt was constrained in how they could differentiate various items and abilities, while its new game offers them more freedom to explore original ideas.

Mateusz Kanik, the game director, adds, “It’s about telling story via what happens, not cutscenes or other features. To do that we need to create a totally new unique dialogue system – we’re doing that right now, it should be awesome.”

The developer has not gone into detail about how the dialog mechanics will work and how players will be able to use them in order to progress in Cyberpunk 2077.

The studio has developed a reputation for building interesting choices into its video games, with consequences that often change a player’s initial vision of the situation.

Cyberpunk 2077 is designed to use the core concepts of the old pen-and-paper game, while introducing a modern sensibility to the title, benefiting from the experience accumulated while the three Witcher titles were created.

Cyberpunk 2077 will use an entirely new engine and will be launched after 2014, although CD Projekt has offered no information on potential platforms.
