Over the years, CyanogenMod has proved to be one of the most popular Android-based pieces of custom software out there, and the newly announced milestone for the platform comes as a confirmation of that.

At the moment, CyanogenMod has been installed more than 10 million times, as the CMStats unveil (the figure includes only unique installations).

The milestone was reached in a bit over four years, with the first custom ROM being released then on the HTC Dream: G1, in an attempt to optimize it, as a post on XDA-Developers notes.

There are a bit over 5 million official CM installations out there, and some 4.5 million unofficial ones, as the Statistics page on CyanogenMod unveils.

Furthermore, the figure includes only devices that have CMStats enabled, and handsets / tablets that checked in in the last 90 days, which means that the actual number of installations should be much higher than that.
