The CyanogenMod team is working on the release of a new music application for the owners of Android-based devices. The application will be integrated with CyanogenMod, and the work on this has already begun.

Called Apollo, it should provide a brand new experience when compared to the previously available music applications, Andrew Neal, the developer behind the app, notes.

For those out of the loop, we should note that CyanogenMod offers custom ROMs based on Google’s Android platform, so that users could benefit from more features on their devices.

The Apollo application is compatible with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and can be installed on devices running CyanogenMod 9 as well.

The latest version arrives with a new UI, as well as with a range of other enhancements. The list of improvements includes:

- I've added a "Recent" tab, that shows your recently added tracks and a "Genres" tab. - You can swipe through your library similar to the Google Play Music app. - I replaced the old expandable list in the "Artist" tab with a new grid list. - Your artist images and album art are fetched for you and added accordingly. - Swipe the bottom action bar to view a set of music controls - Long press the bottom action bar to view your queue in a special way - Touch an artist to view their albums and swipe over to view their tracks.

The developer also promises the arrival of Apollo in the Google Play store in the not too distant future, with support for all devices running Gingerbread or higher and with features such as artist and album info, artist events, more app widgets, and additional customizations.

For those who would like to customize the app with their own theme, there is a theme template available for download, enabling them to easily apply their own personalization options to the app. You’ll find the link in this post on Seeing Pixels.
