Only a few weeks after the new Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system flavor was unveiled to the world, the first custom ROMs based on this platform started to emerge. Among them, we can count some solutions based on the CyanogenMod 7 release, which is only in its early stages at the moment, and which comes very soon after the previous version of CM was made available for download.

One of the ROMs cooked based on CyanogenMod 7 hit the T-Mobile G2 smartphone, and can be seen in the video embedded at the bottom of this article. However, this is not an official CM ROM, and there are some issues that those interested in giving the solution a try should take into consideration.

For example, Cyanogen notes that the existing version of Clockwork Recovery does not play nicely with EXT4, which is included in the new CyanogenMod 7.

According to a recent article on Android Police, other ROMs were also made available for download for other devices out there, including the Nexus S, HTC Desire (CDMA Version), or the HTC EVO 4G.

All of these solutions are based on the aforementioned CyanogenMod 7 port, which made an appearance into the wild soon after Google released the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) code for the new Android 2.3 Gingerbread solution.

The Google-branded Samsung Nexus S got its own semi-official version of CM7, it seems, meant to bring some new features into the mix, in addition to what the new OS flavor already delivered to the device.

What should be noted here is that this ROM, as well as those available for the HTC Desire or the HTC EVO 4G, are not official CyanogenMod 7 ROMs, and that they are only in the early stages of development.

Basically, this means that many features might not be working at the moment, though future releases would certainly fix issues.

Although there are many enthusiasts eager to try out the new Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system on their devices via such a ROM, they should wait for more advanced solutions to become available before installing them.

At the same time, we should note that the installation of such ROMs would result in voiding the warranty of the handset, and might even cause damage to the phone, in case the process is not performed as it should.
