A new version of CyanogenMod is now available for supported devices, with the latest version of Google's Android operating system included into the mix, namely Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread.

This is the first release candidate for CyanogenMod-7.1, and was made available for testing ahead of the availability of a final release.

In addition to the update to Android 2.3.4, the new version of CyanogenMod comes with a series of new features into the mix, as well as with support for additional devices.

“We are now supporting various Samsung devices (Galaxy S, Captivate, and Vibrant), the LG Optimus 2X (p990) /T-Mobile G2x (p999), HTC Incredible S (vivo), and Motorola CLIQ/CLIQ XT,” a recent post on the CyanogenMod blog reads.

“This release candidate should be fairly stable for daily use, but always do a backup first in case something goes wrong. You can help out by giving us feedback on the forums and reporting bugs at the issue tracker,” the said blog post continues.

As stated above, the new CyanogenMod-7.1.0 RC1 comes with a wide range of new features, such as Bluetooth mouse support, Wake on volume key option, “copy all” option added to the context menu, or support for launching apps via gestures in the background.

Moreover, the new release brings improved notification swipe-to-clear and better album-artist support in media scanner, as well as a series of profile improvements and bug fixes, RTL text enhancements, and DSP Manager bugfixes and improvements.

The release notes show that support for revoking application permissions was included into the mix too, along with new options like hiding the hold button during call, or allowing in-call lockscreen to match main lockscreen.

Other improvements were included into the mix as well, all of them being detailed here.

Those who would like to download and install the new CyanogenMod-7.1.0 RC1 are advised to use the ROM Manager for that. Of course, they can also download it from the CyanogenMod website.
