CyanogenMod 6.1.1 has just been announced by the Android community behind the popular ROM. The custom ROM extends the capabilities of certain smartphones and offers Android fans the possibility to use their devices without any of the pre-installed Google applications.

However, users should be aware of the fact that CyanogenMod ROMs can be flashed only on rooted Android smartphones and rooting voids the devices’ warranty.

Currently, the latest CyanogenMod 6.1.1 release is only available for HTC EVO 4G, T-Mobile G2, Nexus One and T-Mobile MyTouch Slide.

Users who have already flashed one of the older CyanogenMod ROMs on their device are required to do a Nandroid Backup before installing the new 6.1.1 ROM. Any Google apps that the user previously installed will be backed up automatically.

Additional installation instructions for new users of the CyanogenMod, as well as download links can be found on CM's community website.

CyanogenMod 6.1.1 change log is detailed below:

- Common: Add rotary lockscreen – Kmobs/cvpcs; - Common: Updated translations; - Common: Push update notifications; - Common: Fix camera sounds; - N1/DS/Supersonic: Kernel performance tweaks and fixes (various); - N1: Update build fingerprint; - Vision: Fix MMS over WiFi calling; - Vision: Add console=null to kernel command line; - Vision: Kernel to 2.6.32.27 and some performance tweaks; - Droid: FRG83D fingerprint, translations, camera, torch fixes.

Unlike the previous 6.1.0 version which updated the device' software to Android 2.2.1, the current CyanogenMod ROM adds only a handful of new features and several bug fixes.

For the moment, there is no information regarding the possibility of additional Android smartphones getting the latest CyanogenMod 6.1.1.

This ROM is an AOSP (Android Open Source Project) build, thus it is free for download. Future updates of the ROM are mostly based on the users' feedback.

Stay tuned for more updates on the latest CyanogenMod ROMs.
