A new version of CyanogenMod was made available for download for a wide range of devices out there, 6.1.0-RC1. Only a release candidate for the time being, the new software solution still comes with a great deal of enhancements and should offer a great experience to all users.

However, since it is a release candidate, it does come with a series of issues, many of which should be solved in the next version of the software.

“You’ll find some really great features in this release like Pedlar’s notification powerbar, insane performance boosts on all platforms (install SetCPU if you want to take it further), powerful new features in the camera app, new email features, FM radiosupport,” a new post on CyanogenMod reads.

The new release was the result of a collaboration between a lot of people, and the ROM available for download is seen as the product of the entire community.

CyanogenMod version 6.1.0 Release Candidate works with the following devices: HTC Aria, HTC Desire (CDMA), HTC Desire (GSM), HTC Dream & Magic, HTC Evo 4G, HTC Hero (CDMA), HTC Hero (GSM), HTC Slide, HTC Wildfire, and Nexus One.

Some of the aforementioned changes in the new CM release include an update to Android 2.2.1, Email app updates, kernel optimizations, touch-to-focus and continuous autofocus for the camcorder (camera), long-pressing back kills foreground app, or notification category support.

Other features include: Galaxy S style power widget in notification bar, bugfixes and improvements for the Gallery3D, fixed AGPS issues, Sound Recorder app enabled, FileManager app, new AppWidgetPicker dialog, Quick PIN unlock, or Skia performance enhancements.

Those interested in taking a look at the entire changelog for the new release should head here. For more info on the release, as well as on how to download and install it, users should go to the CyanogenMod website here.

“You can get the latest via ROM Manager, or head over to the forums for full installation info. New RC builds will be available in the experimental forum for each device as it hits the mirrors,” the said post on CyanogenMod continues.
