A new version of the popular CyanogenMod ROM was made available for download for rooted Android-based devices out there. The new solution comes with some appealing enhancements into the mix, including the Android 2.2.1 OS version, as well as Superuser 2.3.6.

We've already seen some versions of CyanogenMod 6.1.0 released into the wild, but now the final version of the solution is available for download.

Although the CM software is not available for all Android phones out there, it can be downloaded for a nice range of the most popular of them, including Nexus One, Incredible, Desire Z, EVO 4G, Desire HD, Hero, and more.

When compared to the previous stable release of CM, the new flavor comes with a nice range of changes, at almost all levels of the Android OS.

For example, it comes with email app updates, ADWLauncher 1.3.3, kernel optimizations, EMMC support, Camera/camcorder continuous autofocus, Quick PIN unlock, Gallery3D highres fixes, bugfixes and improvements, and more.

Some of these changes would include:

- Various bugfixes from AOSP and CodeAurora - Configurable audio focus for music app - Kill foreground app by long-pressing back - Compose SMS/MMS via search button long press - Increase performance of Gallery3D caching system - Bluetooth FTP server profile - Fix AGPS issues on all platforms - New wallpapers - Galaxy S style power widget in notification bar A nice series of other enhancements was included into the mix too. The entire changelog for CyanogenMod 6.1.0 is available here. Additional info on how to download and install the ROM can be found on the CM forum.

As stated above, the CyanogenMod ROMs can be downloaded and installed on rooted devices only. When rooting a device, the user voids warranty. Users are advised to stay away from rooting their devices, as well as from installing unapproved software on them.

As for CyanogenMod ROMs, they are constantly offering newer features to those who download and install them. The new release, for example, updates handsets like Nexus One, Droid by Motorola, the HTC EVO 4G, Desire, Incredible, and more.
