A new CyanogenMod ROM is now available for download for HTC Desire owners out there, bringing forth some new features and enhancements, namely CyanogenMod 6.0.2.

Starting with CyanogenMod 6, the new ROMs released from the community are based on Android 2.2 (Froyo), though they are meant to expand the features of the handset, and are not simple Froyo solutions.

When it comes to the new CyanogenMod 6.0.2 ROM available for HTC Desire, here is what CyanogenMod forum member Kali says that has been changed:

- GPS Fix (no workaround needed) - Speepup Gallery3D - New kernel with proximity fix

The new release builds upon the enhancements brought in by the 6.0.1 version, which included fixes for the Optical Trackpad, Lightsensor, Headset & Remote Key, and battery usage, complemented by improved AGPS options.

In case there are some out of the loop, we should note that the CyanogenMod distribution is free, community built, the forum post reads: “This is an AOSP-based build with extra contributions from many people which you can use without any type of Google applications.”

“I found a link from some other project that can be used to restore the Google parts, which can be found below or elsewhere in the thread. I've still included the various hardware-specific codes, which seems to be slowly being open-sourced anyway.”

All the necessary info on the new release, as well as on what users would need to do to download the ROM and install it on their HTC Desire units, can be found in this forum thread.

Users interested in trying out the ROM on their devices should know that the move will void their warranty, and that they are doing the move at their own risk. They should stay away from such solutions, especially if they are not familiar with the move.

“I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards […]. Please do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications,” the aforementioned CyanogenMod forum member notes.
