Microsoft is permitting a high degree of flexibility when it comes down to building custom Internet Explorer 8 browser packages. By leveraging the Internet Explorer Administration Kit 8, the latest version of IE can be personalized in accordance with specific preferences, the resource offering various options, including change default accelerators, but also opt for Web Slices, configure compatibility view, and even search enhancements, etc. The latest custom IE8 release made available involves work from Microsoft and the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre.

The collaboration with CEOP, means that Internet Explorer 8 has been configured in such a manner that the browser now offers an optimized user experience when it comes down to accessing safety advice over the web. "Internet safety advice needs to be at your fingertips and not hidden away. Parents and children should not have to go searching through numerous web pages to find the help they need,” revealed Jim Gamble, chief executive officer of CEOP. (TechRadar)

The custom IE8 version made available in concert with CEOP brings to the table a number of features which are not in the default copy of Internet Explorer. In this regard, users will be able to take advantage of the 'Click CEOP' button. Designed to integrate seamlessly into the browser toolbar, the button will provide enhanced access to internet safety information for both children and parents using the browser.

CEOP and the Redmond company are also providing an enhanced search experience for the new copy of IE8. Users turning to the default search box in the browser will be able to easily search information available on the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre website, but also be presented with search suggestions from CEOP’s Internet safety partners. At the same time, The custom IE8’s Favorites Bar has been tailored to CEOP online resources.

"The new CEOP-customized Internet Explorer 8 browser will embed advice, help and report services directly into the toolbar to provide a constant, reassuring presence for families who will be one click away from the support they need,” Gamble added. “We again applaud Microsoft for this development in child safety and look forward to working with other browser developers to make an even safer online environment for our children.”
