'... this tool may contain bugs and therefore may seriously harm your HDD'

So, getting ready to mess up the Elite are we? Well, not if you need the extra hundred bucks for something else. As you know, Microsoft's rolling out their elusive, black cased Xbox 360 Elite, selling its massive 120 gig hard drive unit separately for $180. That's a lot of cash for an HDD unit, you have to agree. No worries, mysterious hacker called "TheSpecialist" has found a way for Xboxers to save $100 on their 120GB HDD for the Xbox 360 Elite, by custom making their own, using a set of instructions, a certain tool and a Western Digital drive.

HDDHackr v0.90 will allow you to use a Western Digital Scorpio BEVS-LAT drive (which is only $80 for the 120 GB), to run for your precious Elite, bought without the 120 GB original hard drive unit from Microsoft. Of course it's not exactly the best choice for your system but if you're keen on taking your girl to the fair with the extra hundred bucks, no one's blaming you.

TheSpecialist's' disclaimer reads: "This tool has only been tested by me. It worked for me. While great care has been taken, this tool may contain bugs and therefore may seriously harm your HDD. Use at own risk !!!"

The instructions list is quite impressive and makes you think how on Earth do some think of stuff like that? Did he try many other possibilities or did he know what to do right from the start? Which element exactly determines that you need that certain HDD model and not another? And most of all, how did the guy get his hands on an Elite so soon? Maybe there's a retailer in this area breaking the street rule as we speak.

So, keep in mind the guy's disclaimer and if you do decide to proceed with the instructions found on Xbox-Scene, be sure that nothing will happen to the Elite. Without a larger storage unit, the Elite is just like older SKUs rolled out by Microsoft in the past two years.
