New York cupcake lovers rejoice, as Sprinkles Cupcake bakery installed near its store an automatic vending machine dispensing sweet treats 24 hours a day.

The so-called “Cupcake ATM” will be replenished 24 hours a day with fresh cupcakes, as the bakery employees will be baking around the clock.

It opened on Tuesday on Lexington Avenue in Manhattan and attracted hungry New Yorkers from all over the city. The first day was promising, as the 760 cakes in the ATM sold out within hours after being launched.

Sprinkles co-founder Charles Nelson said that he got the idea for this treats machine six years ago, when his wife Candace had late-night pregnancy cravings.

“It was the middle of the night and she really wanted a cupcake - I own a cupcake shop and couldn't even get one,” Nelson said, according to the Express.

The cupcakes are priced at $4.25 (€3.08), and customers can choose between nine flavors, including chocolate coconut, Cuban coffee, lemon meringue, red velvet, strawberry, vanilla and cinnamon sugar.

The first cupcake ATM popped up in Beverly Hills, California, in 2012, so this is not the first machine of this kind. Sprinkles has also installed similar machines in Chicago, Dallas and Atlanta.
