Surely you've used at least once childhood's most basic communication cup device: two carton or even thin plastic cups with a thread attached to the bottom of each of them; as the thread was tight and one person would speak into a cup, the bottom would vibrate and send vibrations to the other cup, making it vibrate and reproduce the words. Now it's time to take this game to a new level and introduce to you the CupSpeakers from Latvian designer Dimitry Zagga.

There is nothing serious about this toy as it has been created for fun reasons rather than with a truly functional idea in mind. But hey, it's common knowledge that in some cases all you have to do is introduce an iPod in the equation and things move by themselves.

First of all, Dimitry Zagga's CupSpeakers have nothing technological about them; actually, they are so simple that they are close to being silly. Some of you might indeed say that this is a silly gadget, if a gadget at all; in fact, the CupSpeakers are a mixture between a common thing and an audio gadget, resulting in something somewhat different. All you need in order to create your own CupSpeakers is two pairs of carton drinking cups and your portable media player, not necessarily an iPod.

The CupSpeakers, made for the sake of fun, only.

You must cut a small opening in the bottom of two cups so that the ear piece of your PMP headphones can be inserted through them and stay in place. Thus the cone of the cup will become a horn-like piece supposed to amplify the sound. Then you take the remaining two cups, turn them upside down and insert a toothpick in the bottom; finally, stick the newly-made horn speakers into the toothpicks, which will keep them in place.

You've created your DIY mini-speakers for your MP3 player; don't expect them to perform better than a pair of serious portable speakers, because they won't: it's simply for fun and an excellent idea to have a laugh with your friends over a cup of coffee in town. And it's not for sale.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there.
