One of the best platformer games ever made

Another World is one of the iconic games of the ‘90s and it's been a reference point in gaming for the past 20 years. Now, Linux users can also buy the remastered version and enjoy it with the rest of the world.

It might read like I'm using a sarcastic tone when I say that Linux users can finally play a game that was originally launched back in 1991, but that is not the case. This is a really good title that should be experienced by all kinds of players, no matter the platform it's released on.

Another World has been recently remastered and it's now published by Focus Home Interactive. The game supports large resolutions, new operating systems, and it works like a charm on Linux, even on PCs with old video cards and processors.

Why you should play Another World – 20th Anniversary Edition

It matters less that the game has been remastered. Sure, it's a nice bonus for fans of the original title, but it's not really that important to the gameplay and to the experience. It might seem like a simple platformer, but Another World is completely different from what you might have tried until now.

First of all, there is no HUD, no indicators, or anything of this sort. The maker of this game, Eric Chahi, didn't want to have anything between the player and the character, but that's not all. There is no text and none of the characters ever speak. There are sound effects, music, and some alien language, but the story is conveyed through images and action, without any kind of narration or help.

The third thing that makes this a great game to have in your library is the difficulty. It's a very hard title to master and the player will die constantly. There are no save points, only checkpoints, and the characters can die in too many ways to count.

"Another World chronicles the story of Lester Knight Chaykin a young scientist hurtled through space and time by a nuclear experiment that goes wrong. In an alien and inhospitable world, you will have to dodge, outwit, and overcome the host of alien monsters, while surviving an environment as deadly as your enemies. Only a perfect blend of logic and skill will get you past the deadly obstacles that lie in wait," reads the synopsis on Steam.

The 75% price cut for Another World – 20th Anniversary Edition is scheduled to end on October 13.
