Keeping in tune with the massive public interest shown worldwide in the latest Olympic Games, the European Space Agency (ESA) had its Proba-1 CubeSat collect an image of the Olympic Village from Earth's orbit.

Despite its name, the High Resolution Camera is the smallest instrument on the microsatellite. Though more than 10 years old, it is still capable of producing detailed images of Earth's surface, and even make out details such as the Olympic Park, in London.

The circular Olympic Stadium is clearly visible in this 5-meter resolution image, which was collected from an altitude of roughly 720 kilometers (447 miles) above Earth's surface, on August 11, 2012.

The HRC instrument works together with the larger, 62-band Compact High Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (CHRIS) instrument, which collects 15-meter resolution images.
