Crytek has confirmed that its Ryse project for the Kinect is still in development, despite the fact that no other details have appeared about the game since its reveal at last year’s E3 conference.

Ryse was among the variety of Kinect games for the Xbox 360 that were revealed by Microsoft back in 2011, impressing with its unique premise that saw players become a Roman fighter who needed to battle against enemies.

Since then, no other details have appeared from either developer Crytek or publisher Microsoft, which made quite a lot of Kinect owners worry that they would never get a chance to let loose their inner gladiator.

According to Crytek’s General Manager of games, Nick Button-Brown, that’s not the case, as the fighting game is still in development and it will be detailed soon.

"Yeah, absolutely [it's alive]," Button-Brown told CVG. "It's doing really well and we're really, really happy with where it's going."

The Crytek executive also confirmed that development milestones were being met so the project would be ready for a more official reveal in the near future, especially since Microsoft is pressuring the company to deliver Ryse as fast as possible.

"It's going really, really well. The team actually delivered a milestone yesterday, which was quite nice. It's kind of good to see that,” he said. "We're really happy with it and at some stage will be showing and giving more information about it. Unfortunately we're kind of constrained by our publisher."

Ryse was initially announced as a “visceral, action-packed experience that brings ancient Rome to life through the stunning visuals and innovative gameplay."

While its first actual trailer looked impressive, it’s going to be interesting to see if Ryse will deliver its motion controlled gameplay in a good way or if it’s just going to rely on its visuals to amaze Kinect users.
