Plans for the future

Crytek is quite a weird company, especially when it comes to trademarks that are filled with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The company trademarked Warhead, Warface and World in Crysis, prompting speculation that all of them would be titles in the Crysis franchise.

Indeed, Warhead proved to be a videogame telling a story that runs parallel to that of the original game, focusing on Psycho and his exploits on the alien-infested island. Until now, the other two trademarked titles were not attached to any known projects.

Crytek went back to the United States Patent and Trademark Office and registered another three names: “Gface,” “Carvatar” and “Kingdoms.” The first two patents are for “computer game software and electronic games,” “motion picture and TV films” and “books and booklets featuring comedy, drama, action, adventure, animation, and music.” Kingdoms lacks the descriptors for the last category.

There are two projects Crytek is working on at the moment, both of them not bearing names. A new studio based in Kiev, Ukraine is working on a fresh intellectual property, while the studio in Budapest, Hungary is working on a game set to come to the PlayStation Portable.

Crytek is saying that it is interested in both creating new titles in the Crysis franchise and in developing fresh games, especially for the three main consoles.

Of the three trademarked names, Gface sounds technology-related, possibly a bit of software used in conjunction with CryEngine 3. Carvatar sounds like a racing game focused on combat and destruction, while Kingdoms could point to Crytek taking on a medieval setting, which might be confirmed by a small section of the presentation video for the new game engine, which shows a fortress attacked with flaming catapult projectiles.
