Crytek has recently issued an official statement in which it denies all rumors regarding its financial issues and its imminent filing for bankruptcy that emerged online over the weekend.

We have already reported that German magazine Gamestar claims that the well-known developer is close to bankruptcy due to various reasons that include the unpopularity of some of its latest titles, such as Ryse: Son of Rome and Warface.

For those unfamiliar with the subject, here is a quick recap that will put you up to speed with the news. Apparently, the adoption of CryEngine is nowhere the studio hoped it would be and its recent MMO Warface seems to be popular only in Russia.

Another reason for Crytek’s financial troubles is the fact that the studio had to overhire manpower for the development of Ryse: Son of Rome, which is an exclusive Xbox One title.

Given the fact that Crytek was way behind with the development of the game with just several months ahead of launch, it was forced to hire more people to work on the project.

The cold reception of the title after release didn’t help either. According to the German magazine, Crytek has more than 800 employees, which is quite a high number for a studio that wasn’t successful in the last couple of years.

However, nothing that was said in Gamestar’s report seems to be accurate, Crytek claims. In a statement issued for VG247, Crytek officially denied all these allegations regarding its financial issues.

Here is the entire statement issued by Crytek: “Regardless of what some media are reporting, mostly based on a recent article published by GameStar, the information in those reports and in the Gamestar article itself are rumours which Crytek deny.

We continue to focus on the development and publishing of our upcoming titles Homefront: The Revolution, Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age, Arena of Fate, and Warface, as well as providing ongoing support for our CryEngine and its licensees.

We have received a lot of positive feedback during and after E3 from both gaming press and gamers, and would like to thank our loyal employees, fans and business partners for their continuous support.”

Obviously, we’re happy that Crytek continues to focus on its new titles, and hope that all these bankruptcy reports are just inaccurate rumors. We definitely don’t want Crytek to be acquired by any major publisher like Wargaming, as these rumors claim.

Still, only the future will tell how much truth is in these reports, so we will keep a close eye on the matter and update the info accordingly.
