Crytek's remastered classic isn't cheap on consoles

The original Crysis first person shooter from Crytek and Electronic Arts is coming to consoles this October, after being released for the PC back in 2007, so the two companies have now posted new details to go along with the announcement trailer that premiered before the weekend.

Crysis 1 impressed a huge number of PC gamers thanks to its realistic graphics as well as with its absurd system requirements, with computers being able to run it at full details appearing well after the actual game.

Now, Crytek, the game's developer, is preparing to deploy Crysis 1 onto consoles, including the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, in a remastered way, using the new CryEngine 3 technology employed earlier this year by Crysis 2, complete with an all new lighting system, new visual effects and a variety of other optimizations.

"We are extremely proud of what we were able to accomplish with Crysis. We set out to create a next-generation FPS and delivered a PC experience that became a benchmark for quality – and still is for many gamers even four years later," said Cevat Yerli, CEO of Crytek. "By bringing the single-player campaign to console, we believe we are again setting a new standard for quality in downloadable gaming."

That new standard of quality comes with a pretty high price, as Crysis will cost $19.99 on the PlayStation Store and 1600 MS Points on the Xbox Live Marketplace, which is quite steep, even if you consider the optimized Nanosuit controls, the fine-tuned combat or the full stereoscopic 3D it's going to offer.

In case you're not familiar with the original Crysis, check out a description from Crytek and Electronic Arts below.

"In Crysis, gamers will travel to 2019 where a team of US scientists makes a frightening discovery on an island in the South China Sea. All contact with the team is lost when the North Korean Government quickly seals off the area. The United States responds by dispatching an elite team of Delta Force Operators to recon the situation. As tension rises between the two nations, a massive alien ship reveals itself in the middle of the island."

"Now with hope rapidly fading, the US and North Koreans must join forces to battle the alien menace, fighting epic battles through stunning, photorealistic tropical jungles and frozen landscapes."

Crysis 1 is out on consoles this October, although a concrete release date isn't known.
