Publisher Electronic Arts and developer Crytek are announcing that they plan to offer Crysis Wars for free for a ten-day period in the following week. The title, which is the multiplayer oriented element of the autumn release Crysis Warhead, will become free on December 19 and the offer will end on December 28.

If you are interested in a bit of nanosuit multiplayer action, you should head over to the Crysis community site, where you can register to receive the access key which you will need for downloading the free game package. Be advised that the copy of the game you’ll get will no longer work after 11:59 Pacific Time on December 28.

As part of the free download, players will also get two whole new multiplayer maps that are part of the Holiday Map Pack, which is available starting this week. Crytek and Electronic Arts are really working hard to make Crysis Wars recognizable, as the game has not managed to gain the multiplayer popularity that titles like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare or Team Fortress 2 are enjoying amongst players.

Crytek has broken new ground with the original Crysis, especially in the graphics department. The game looked great and the firefights were very engaging, especially with the added gameplay options offered by the trademark nanosuit. Crysis Warhead, which was pitched as a parallel story, played from the perspective of Psycho, was also entertaining, even if it didn't manage to bring innovation to the franchise. Crysis Wars was released as a companion game focused on multiplayer action.

Crytek is now presumably working on Crysis 2, the second game in the series set up by the very abrupt ending of the first release. The company revealed that it would probably develop the title thinking about gaming consoles, saying that the PC videogame business was way too affected by piracy.
