Crytek, the developer of the upcoming Crysis 3 first-person shooter, has confirmed that it might release a special Crysis Trilogy package onto next-generation platforms once they appear either this year or in 2014.

In the last few years, it's become quite a trend for developers and publishers to re-release older games either as trilogies or collections onto the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 with various improvements, including high-definition textures or better visuals.

Once next-generation platforms appear, like the Xbox 720 or the PlayStation 4, the trend could continue, at least according to Crysis 3 Producer Michael Read, who told Videogamer that a so-called Crysis Trilogy could appear on the new devices.

"I haven't heard anything about that internally but I have had a lot of people asking about that. I think if enough people are crying out and going, 'Hey, let's see something', then you know, that may just end up being awesome."

While this isn't a confirmation, you can expect lots of video game trilogies and collections to appear once new consoles are released, in order to enhance their portfolio of games.
