Bringing the tropical jungle to New York City will attract lots of fans

Crytek, the studio behind the highly successful Crysis series, has talked about the upcoming third installment, saying that it combines the best things about the first and second games in the franchise.

Crysis 1 introduced players to a stunning tropical island where they had to navigate vast jungles and battle both North Korean soldiers, as well as imposing aliens called Ceph.

In Crysis 2, players headed to New York City, where they now had to battle both private military soldiers, coming from the Cell corporation, as well as upgraded versions of the Ceph.

While Crysis 3 still takes place in New York, the city has been invaded by an actual jungle, thanks to a special dome set up by the Cell corporation, so Crytek believes the future title will combine the best elements of previous titles.

“People really wanted to revisit the tropical setting [of Crysis 1] and take it to the next level, but there was still an appeal in the city setting [of Crysis 2]. But we didn't just want to do another city, so then these things got married,” Rasmus Hojengaard, the studio’s director of creative development, told CVG.

“And that also gives us this great potential for variety in gameplay because there is only so much you can do with an island or a city in isolation before you break down the believability, but once you introduce an accelerated ecosystem you have liberties that you don't otherwise have.”

This new development for the series is owed, according to Hojengaard, to the experience the developer already has with the franchise.

“When you're on the third iteration of a game you don't approach pitches and design documentation prior to starting the game in the same way you do with a new IP, so a lot of it was just very small ideas which then snowballed, such as the concept of the Nanodome, which led to the idea of New York being overgrown due to hyper vegetation growth and so on,” he added.

Are you happy that Crysis 3 combines these two aspects from the previous games or do you want something completely new from Crytek?
