The leader of developer Cryptic Studios has admitted that his company needs to improve their creation process for the upcoming cooperative role playing game based on the Neverwinter universe, after the criticism they have faced over the lack of launch polish for MMOs Champions Online and Star Trek Online.

The new Neverwinter PC project was announced officially by publisher Atari after a lot of speculation that mentioned that Neverwinter will be used as a setting for a new MMO.

Talking to MMO oriented website Massively, Jack Emmert, who is the leader of Cryptic, has stated, “From our point of view, we just had to take a look at ourselves and kind of change the way we were doing things... we knew that Neverwinter had to be the highest possible quality, and we had to improve, dramatically, everything that we did.”

He then added, “The best way to do that was to sort of change the style of gameplay so that the focus wasn't on hundreds of hours of mediocre (some would say even worse than mediocre) content, but instead create a rich story-driven multiplayer game.”

The Cryptic executive also mentioned the fact that limiting the scope of the experience will allow his team to create more engaging and interesting experiences that don't necessarily appeal to everyone.

Neverwinter is set to arrive late in 2011 and Atari is really pulling all the stops when it comes to its promotion, with Wizards of the Coast preparing a table top role playing game to be released around the same time and with R.A. Salvatore, the father of Drizzt, preparing a trilogy of novels that use the same universe as the game.

Recently Cryptic has seen a couple of key people leave the company, including Bill Roper, who previously had experience working at Flagship and at Blizzard.

Cryptic is also continuing work on Star Trek Online, with the second season features now going live.
