Gamers will get deeper role-playing elements

Paradox Development Studio has already revealed that Crusader Kings II will get a new Way of Life expansion on December 16 and the company is ready to talk a little more about the core new concepts that they are adding to the classic grand strategy title in order to enhance its role-playing elements.

Tobias Bodlund, a scripter at the studio, explains in a forum-based diary that his company wants to make sure that gamers have more options than ever when it comes to personal interactions and ways to manipulate all those around them.

The biggest change is the Focus system, which is designed to allow players to choose the element of the Crusader Kings II that they would like to be the core interest for their character.

The developer adds, “When you start your game, you will be able to choose a focus for your character, and this focus will affect the availability and frequency of certain types of events associated with that focus, as well as unlock certain decisions and actions that you can perform towards other characters.”

The choice itself will introduce some small bonuses to character attributes and some of them have pre-conditions, usually linked to the religion or the marital status of the character.

Paradox explains that Focus can be changed every five years and that it has introduced some Ways of Life event chains which take even more time than that to unfold.

The company also says there are hundreds of new events introduced in Way of Life and all of them are designed to focus on the rulers and their choices.

Crusader Kings II is also getting the traditional free patch

The team is also delivering a free patch for the grand strategy title alongside the expansion.

A right click on a character will from now on bring up diplomacy and other interaction choices, making it easier for the player to interact with the world around him.

At the same time, the mods for Crusader Kings II will have a set of new features to work on in order to expand the game, including a new type of decisions and more options related to text.

A full list of patch notes for the coming patch will be published later in the week.

Paradox is not saying whether they have plans to release any other expansion for Crusader Kings II or if Way of Life is the end of the road for the very popular game.
