The team at the Paradox Development Studio announced during the Gamescom 2014 event that it was working on a new expansion for Crusader Kings II which would be focused on the historical figure of Charlemagne.

Now the company has used its official Twitch channel to play the new content for about two hours, with senior members of the development team talking about the changes that are being made to the core mechanics of the grand strategy experience.

Charlemagne will offer a new start date and will include a variety of major events linked to the period, allowing gamers to choose which nation they want to control in the early day of the Middle Ages.

A free patch will also be launched alongside the expansion and will include new climate-based mechanics and improvements to the interactions between the various political entities of the period.

Crusader Kings II – Charlemagne does not yet have an official launch date.

Some gamers are disappointed with the info offered during the gameplay reveal on Twitch and are claiming that the new DLC does not offer enough new mechanics in order to be attractive, but the team working on it says the core game offers a new and interesting experience.
