The team at the Paradox Development Studios working on the upcoming Rajas of India expansion for Crusader Kings II is delivering a new diary linked to the title, which offers an update on the changes that will be made to the military system.

The team explains that all Indian subcontinent rulers will be able to use the new War Elephant unit, which is the heaviest type of cavalry that will be featured in the grand strategy game.

This gives the players who are able to recruit them a big advantage during the shock phase of the tactical combat, allowing them to take out big numbers of enemy troops and destroy their morale faster, especially if they are not prepared to battle the elephants.

Paradox states in an official forum post that, “These beasts of war will be mostly available from retinues but there will also be cultural buildings that will produce them for you. They will only exist in very limited numbers compared to other troop types but will have a devastating effect on the battlefield during the melee phase.”

Muslim rulers in Rajas of India will also get the ability to use their unique camel warriors when the expansion launches, mainly because Paradox has tweaked the way units are defined in the game.

A new Special Troop type has been included in order to allow for each culture or country to get its unique warriors.

The new feature is mainly aimed at the modding community, which will not have the ability to create more diverse armies that better reflect the universes they are working with.

The addition of Vikings in the Old Gods expansion and the expansion of the map to India that’s coming has many fans of Crusader Kings II thinking about conquering their way from Europe to the remotest corners of Asia.

But Paradox says that it is introducing an all new starvation mechanics in order to limit expansion and conquest and maintain some historical plausibility.

Each army will be able to take 31 days of supplies with it and use them at a rate determined by how good its general is.

The team adds, “When you do finally reach the enemy territory, the troops will start foraging from their surrounding area to keep themselves supplied. The foraging builds on the pillaging from the loot bar except it goes a lot slower. When the soldiers can't take more from the loot bar they will start to starve again in 31 days.”

Crusader Kings II – Rajas of India will be out on PC before the end of spring.
