The team at Paradox Interactive announces that its grand strategy title Crusader Kings II is at the moment free to play on the Steam digital distribution service from Valve, which means that gamers have until October 6 to try out what the experience has to offer.

The official announcement asks all long-time fans of the title to try and help all those who will jump into the experience, offer relevant information about it and point them towards resources that can help them enjoy it.

Paradox adds, “We recently reached 1 million sold copies of this wonderful game. This is a golden opportunity to take a big step towards the next milestone! The more people playing this game, the more effort we can put into improving it! So for all our sakes! Let’s help all newcomers as much as we can, and the rewards shall be great for us all!”

At the same time, the entire catalog of video games and downloadable content from Paradox Interactive is at the moment offered with some deep discounts on Steam and gamers can take a look at the entire list to see what they might be interested in playing.

Europa Universalis IV is maybe the most traditional experience offered, allowing players to take control of a nation in the Middle Ages and try to increase its power and territory.

Hearts of Iron III is old at this point but does offer an interesting take on World War II, while Victoria II might be the most complex in terms of mechanics and focuses on the conflicts and the colonization of the XIX century and up to World War I.

More expansions are coming

At the moment, Paradox is working on two major expansions which are expected to be offered before the end of the year via digital distribution services.

Europa Universalis IV will get Art of War, which will introduce new options for conflict but will also allow players to create customized Client States, while streamlining some core mechanics.

Meanwhile, Crusader Kings II is getting Charlemagne, new content that pushes the start date back and introduces new features like vassal limits and viceroys, with more events that will follow the life of the Frankish king.

Paradox Development Studios is also working on Hearts of Iron IV, which will be launched in the first few months of 2015, delivering an entirely new take on World War II.
