The team at Paradox Development Studios announces that the new Charlemagne expansion for Crusader Kings II will be launched on October 14 of this year, giving gamers access to a new host of features and an extra century of history to rewrite for the price of 14.99 dollars or Euro.

The new content will be offered via digital distribution services and can be played on PCs powered by Windows, Mac and Linux.

At the moment, Crusader Kings II is free to play on Steam.

A new video developer diary for Charlemagne features the development team talking about some of the new features that will be included, both in the actual expansion and in the free patch that Crusader Kings II will receive at the same time.

There are a lot of details embedded in the 6-minute long video, which fans will certainly appreciate.

The team is also planning to launch more DLC packs alongside the expansion, which will include clothing and portraits that are appropriate for the early Middle Ages period, for both Western and Eastern European rulers.

There is also a new Dynasty Shield package which will introduce coats of arms that are based on real world historical designs, and the medieval poem Song of Roland will also be re-launched in enook format on the date when Charlemagne is launched.

A focus on family and empire building

Charlemagne allows fans of Crusader Kings II to go back in time even farther in order to experience medieval politics, economics and warfare starting with 769, a period when Europe was still trying to find a way to reorganize itself after the decline of the Western Roman Empire and the various migratory invasions.

The expansion for Crusader Kings II aims to streamline some of the core mechanics, including plots and assassinations, in order to make it easier for players to handle their affairs and focus on the big picture.

There are also new political entities that will inhabit the world, and gamers can choose to try and conquer the continent with a Christian ruler or they can lead the resistance of the pagans.

A new Chronicle is being added to the video game, allowing gamers to see all the major events of their session and easily share it with other players.

At the same time, a number of event chains are being added, focused on Charlemagne himself and his family and their struggle to turn the Frankish kingdom into the dominant power in Europe.
