Yesterday evening, Philip Newborough announced the immediate availability for testing of the second Alpha release of the upcoming CrunchBang Linux 10 distribution. Dubbed Statler, the freshly cooked CrunchBang Linux 10 Alpha 2 build is now based on the Debian Squeeze operating system and, in sync with its repositories.

As usual, CrunchBang 10 is distributed in two editions, with Openbox and XFCE window managers. It is also available for both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures. Just keep in mind that it's a development release and it should not be used on production machines. "The new alpha 2 builds were created on Thursday 24th June 2010 and are in sync with the Debian Squeeze repositories as of that date. Debian Squeeze continues to develop nicely and the Debian developers are doing a fantastic job. Major updates to Squeeze and therefore CrunchBang, since the last CrunchBang alpha builds, include updates to both the Openbox Window Manager (3.4.11.1) and the Xfce Desktop Environment (4.6.2)." - said Philip Newborough in the official release announcement.
