Crucial has just released a new firmware for its M500 SSD. Version MU03.03.S0 provides system builders with the ability to disable the temperature throttling function and improves compatibility with latest encryption management software.

The release notes mention improvements in efficiency of background operations for better lifetime and performance.

Before installing this firmware it is recommended that you back up all data on the SSD and, after you've done that, be sure to use and AC power supply for this procedure.

Next, from the BIOS, disable any passwords that you may have set on the SSD. These might block firmware updates. While you're there, make sure the boot order is with the USB or CD drives first. I would rather use the CD procedure.

Create a bootable CD or USB drive with the iso file available at the link below and use it to start the update procedure.

After the tool loads, confirm that you wish to install the new firmware and wait for the “Finished” line to come up.

Finally, remove the bootable media and shut down your system by holding the power button. Restart the computer and change the BIOS settings back to the way you prefer them.
