Crucial has just released a new firmware version for its popular RealSSD C300 series of solid state drives that is said to offer better product reliability as well as better performance since it resolves the stuttering issues experienced by some of its users.

The new firmware carries the 0007 designation and replaces the older 0006 version that was released in November of last year.

According to the change log posted by Crucial, the 0007 firmware should offer “improved product reliability” and should also resolve a “performance anomaly which resulted in brief, intermittent pauses in drive response time for some users.”

The company stated that the firmware update is non-destructive in nature, but users should do a full data backup before undergoing the update process.

This will minimize the risks involved since, if the firmware process is interrupted for any reason (power outage, unstable system, etc.), the solid state drive may not function properly afterwards.

The new 0007 firmware is available right now for download from Crucial's website (link here) and covers both the 1.8-inch C300 SSDs as well as the 2.5-inch drives.

There is a specific firmware version for every capacity SSD in the C300 series, so please make sure to download the proper FW for your drive.

A detailed update guide is also available on the same page as the firmware and Crucial's update tool is built as an ISO image that can be burned onto a CD or DVD.

The image is bootable and will automatically identify the Crucial RealSSD C300 drives that are installed inside the system and their firmware versions.

Judging by the documentation provided by Crucial, the whole update process should take just a few seconds for a nearly empty drive. For a drive that is nearly full, the process can take anywhere in between three and four minutes. (via StorageReview)
