CodeWeavers has announced updates to its CrossOver Mac and CrossOver Games applications for Mac OS X, both of which strengthen compatibility with Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, and deliver numerous enhancements and fixes.

CrossOver is a software utility that allows you to install Windows applications and games on Mac OS X.

Unlike virtualization solutions, which require the user to install the actual Windows operating system and run it in a virtual machine, CrossOver installs and runs Windows apps as if they were native Mac apps.

Not all Windows programs are supported, but CodeWeavers goes out of its way to make the most popular pieces of software (both apps and games) compatible with CrossOver.

According to the company, CrossOver Mac 10.1.0 fixes several known issues with Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, simplifies user interactions when Quartz-WM is missing, and fixes check printing in Quicken 2011.

Users are advised not to move cursor on display mode change, start up, or quit, according to the changelog.

CrossOver Games 10.1.1 also fixes several known issues with the upcoming Mac OS 10.7 Lion from Apple, as well as fixes the Guild Wars footstep bug, updates several built-in CrossTies.

Other important changes in the new CrossOver games are listed as follows:

· Improved the MojoSetup (.bin installer) upgrade path. · Added a progress dialog during initial open of a CrossTie on the Mac. · Added support for the 'installer' keyword which supports CrossTies for stand-alone executables. · Added RAR support to CrossTie installation. · Added a 'recreate' button to the menus control panel. · Fixed some menu issues on the upgrade path from CrossOver 9.2. · Added a means to turn off requesting a stable OpenGL back buffer. · Set CX_NO_GL_BACKING_STORE in the environment to enable.
