CrossOver Mac allows you to install your favorite Windows applications and games on Mac OS X, without needing a Windows license. Version 7.0 of the software offers support for a number of extra applications, including Microsoft Office 2007, Adobe's first two Creative suites and "newer versions" of Quicken. A 30-day free trial is available for download.

CrossOver has a single click style interface, which makes installing
Windows software very simple and fast. Just click and run your application directly from the OS X Finder. Once installed, your application integrates seamlessly in OS X.

Installing new Windows software can be done in a jiffy even by using the installation CD, CodeWeavers says. Users simply place the Windows CD in their Mac and CrossOver will recognize it and offer to begin the installation process. As soon as the software completes the installation and configures the application to run on your Mac, you're ready to go.

Aside the greatly improved online banking integration in Quicken 2007 and 2008, and the improved support for modern Linux distributions, CodeWeavers 7.0 supports a huge array of new apps. Here are some of them:

■ Microsoft Office 2007, 2003, XP, 2000 and 97
■ Microsoft Word
■ Microsoft Excel
■ Microsoft PowerPoint
■ Microsoft Outlook
■ Microsoft Access (Microsoft Access supported in Office 2000 only.)
■ Microsoft Internet Explorer 6
■ Microsoft Project
■ Microsoft Visio
■ Half-Life 2
■ Quicken.

CrossOver Mac is now available in two forms: CrossOver Mac - Standard and CrossOver Mac - Professional. The Standard Edition of CrossOver Mac ($39.95) runs all CrossOver-supported Windows applications. The Professional package ($69.95), however, adds a multitude of benefits, including: CrossOver Games (enables compatibility with popular titles such as Team Fortress 2 and World of WarCraft), enhanced deployability Features, multi-user support, volume discounts, educational discounts, and Level 2 support (12 months).

The Professional package is available both as a download and on CD, while Standard is only downloadable. The CrossOver Mac free trial is available here. Requirements call for an Intel-based Macintosh running Mac OS X 10.4.3 or later, and 120MB of free space.
