CodeWeavers has launched a new version of CrossOver Games for Mac OS X and Linux, adding support for the new MMORPG Rift. The update also fixes bugs with Star Trek Online and WoW, and improves LOTRO installation.
CrossOver is an application that integrates Wine to allow Mac users to run multiple Windows applications without having to employ costly virtualization software.
The solution no longer supports Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger as of version 10.0 released in January.
Now, CrossOver Games version 10.1.0 is here with some new stuff.
“I am happy to announce that we have now released version 10.1.0 of CrossOver Games, for both the Mac and for Linux,” CodeWeavers staff member Jeremy White writes on the company’s forums.
“This version adds support for Rift - the hot new MMORPG,” Jeremy is proud to say.
“We've also fixed a few bugs with Star Trek Online and World of Warcraft and improved the Lord of the Rings Online installation process, but most users will still need to rely on the PyLotro program to launch LOTRO (thanks to our Advocate, Alan Jackson),” he informs.
Jeremy also has the full changelog for those interested in knowing all the details. For example, other notable changes include the ability to install World of Warcraft via the download client.
According to CodeWeavers, “There are some issues with the WoW launcher, but the game runs well when launched via WoW.exe.”
The team was also able to carry out some maintenance too on the way CrossOver Games handles the Star Trek Online launcher. Still, the game still suffers from performance problems, CodeWeavers admits.
A future update will most likely see this issue addressed.
Finally, CrossOver Games 10.1.0 adds CrossTie support for .rar files, makes several improvements to menu and association handling, and resolves a bug launching some games in Steam.
