CrossOver 10.0.0 Abandons Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger

CodeWeavers has officially announced the discontinuation of Mac OS X Tiger support in its CrossOver Mac application. The announcement comes in light of the program’s promotion to version 10.0.0.

CrossOver integrates Wine to allow Mac users to run multiple Windows applications without having to employ costly virtualization software.

“CrossOver Mac and CrossOver Games Mac no longer run on OS X 10.4 Tiger,” CodeWeavers confirms via the official changelog for CrossOver Mac and Games 10.0.0.

The move doesn’t come as a surprise, as Mac OS X Tiger (version 10.4) is a five-year old OS that can barely handle day to day tasks using today’s software.

“The Mac product now uses modern (Leopard-era) GUI tools, which should improve the look and feel of quite a few things,” the developer adds.

Several GUI and System integration improvements have been made as well, including:

- The installer no longer accidentally grabs files from $HOME.
- Trace flags are functioning properly.
- Long CrossTie errors are cleaned up.
- Mac Menu Items are removed after uninstall of applications.
- Restored the 'Use Native Browser' option that was present in CrossOver 8.x.
- Made several changes to the layout and graphical design.
- The 'Force Quit' button in the bottle manager should work better.

The Games version of CrossOver for Mac, further enhances compatibility with some of the already supported games.

According to CodeWeavers, the Steam Store is now working, while Steam Community messages can be accessed.

Regressions have been fixed in Fallout, Tank Universal, and Star Trek: Bridge Commander, StarCraft II installs are improved, Wizard 101 now works on 1600 ATI Macs, and portals render properly in Portal on ATI Macs, to mention some of the most noteworthy enhancements.

For both CrossOver Games and Mac, CodeWeavers has added new localizations, including German, Czech, Chinese (PRC), and Brazilian Portuguese.
