The websites of a couple of Croatian financial institutions, Karlovacka Banka and Samoborska Banka, have been defaced by the local faction of Anonymous.

The hackers posted the Anonymous logo on the affected pages, along with a message.

The hacktivists have told The Hacker News that this is a form of protest against the banks, which they accuse of “stealing from the people.” They've also threatened that other banks would also be targeted.

In a statement, Samoborska representatives admitted that the site was hacked, but they claim that they managed to restore it within half an hour after the breach.

“We also inform you that this attack has not caused any monetary or material damage, and that the security of the information systems of Samoborska bank has not been compromised,” the bank stated.

On the other hand, the site of Karlovacka can be accessed, but none of the links from the main page appear to be working.
