14 DAY TRIAL // It’s been a decade that the tabloids have been covering the so-called feud between Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston, which started when Brad Pitt left the latter for the former and may have even cheated on her, as word would have it.
However, despite what the tabloids are saying, it is clearly possible for the two to attend the same event and walk the same red carpet, as last night’s Critics’ Choice Awards 2015 proved. The world did not implode, no one died or was seriously harmed, and there was no open hostility.
No drama, just fashion
Both Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston were nominated for an award at the gala, but neither won anything. Jolie’s most recent directorial effort, the war drama “Unbroken,” was up for 3 awards including Best Picture, while Aniston was nominated for Best Actress for her role as a chronic pain pill addict in “Cake.”
They both went home empty-handed, but they did win a spot in red carpet fashion history with their impeccable outfits. Truth be told now, they rarely disappoint at an event of this kind.
Angelina Jolie was the very definition of a movie star, in a gorgeous Versace silver satin gown with an open back, minimal makeup and natural hair, styled in oversized curls. For a bit more drama, she opted for big eyelashes and big diamond studs, and very little of anything else.
Aniston, on the other hand, vamped it up in a red Gucci pants suit, with no shirt under the blazer. She pulled all the stops in the low-cut blazer, which she matched with gold body jewelry by Fred Leighton.
Unlike Angeline, who left her husband Brad Pitt at home, Jennifer had her fiancé Justin Theroux by her side for support. They also posed for photos together on the red carpet, with Justin looking his usual dashing self in a Dior Homme tux.
The showdown that never was
Some time before the awards season kicked off, when Jolie and Aniston emerged as contenders, there was a lot of talk of what would happen if these two ever crossed paths, if only by attending the same event together. This seemed like a good possibility given the sheer number of awards shows and the fact that they couldn’t possibly refuse to attend all.
Rumors also said that there would be some kind of showdown between them when this happened, because Aniston was determined to confront Jolie and finally give her a piece of her mind on the way she behaved and the part she played in the split from Brad Pitt.
Some believed that this would happen at last weekend’s Golden Globes 2015 (which Jolie didn’t attend), while others had their money on any other gala of the season.
Obviously, the tabloids occasionally forget that these two are professionals and that they earn their living by acting. They would never do something this public at such an event, even assuming they felt this way about each other.
