Users running Internet Explorer 9 or IE8 on top of Windows 7 Service Pack 1 will receive a Critical security bulletin next week.

The security update is part of Microsoft’s normal, monthly patch release process, and will be accompanied by a range of additional security bulletins.

The software giant plans to plug security holes in a number of its technologies, including the latest releases of its IE browser and Windows OS,” revealed Angela Gunn Senior Response Communications Manager, Trustworthy Computing Microsoft.

“Today we’re releasing our advance notification for the August security bulletin release, which is scheduled for Tuesday, August 9. This month’s release includes 13 bulletins addressing 22 vulnerabilities in Microsoft Windows, Office, Internet Explorer, .NET and Visual Studio. All 13 bulletins will be released on Tuesday, August 9 at approximately 10 a.m. PDT,” Gunn stated.

Only a couple of the 13 August 2011 security bulletins sport a severity rating of Critical, the Redmond company revealed, one impacting Internet Explorer, and the other Windows.

The Critical IE patches will be delivered to all supported versions of the browser, including IE8 and IE9 running on Windows 7 SP1, as I have already said.

The remaining Critical security bulletin will only impact customers running Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2, the Redmond company noted.

As far as the Office patch package is concerned, only customers with Visio 2010 SP1, Visio 2007 SP2 and Visio 2003 SP3 will need to deploy it. Users of the core components of Office 2010, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint will not need to deploy any patches this month.

Visual Studio 2005 SP1, Chart Control for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, and Microsoft Report Viewer 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package will also receive patches next week.

In addition to the two Critical security bulletins, Microsoft will also release nine Important patch packages, and two security updates rated Moderate.
