Cristiano Ronaldo makes headlines for matching black speedo and watch with black polish on his toenails
Cristiano Ronaldo makes headlines for matching black speedo and watch with black polish on his toenails

When the media attacked him for his fondness of pink clothes, flowers and purses (or murses, more like it), Cristiano Ronaldo defended himself by saying he did not understand why his taste in fashion was anybody else’s business but his own. He will probably be saying the same about the way the media reacted to his latest “fashion faux-pas”: black nail polish on his toenails.

It’s not uncommon for men to wear nail polish, though the type most likely to do so is more rock and / or goth than Cristiano Ronaldo. However, men with their toenails painted, regardless of the color, don’t really come a dime a dozen, so it’s only understandable why Ronaldo’s picture is now making the rounds like crazy. And it’s not even for a good reason that it’s doing so either, the Daily Mail believes, saying – in more or less words – that the football star looks ridiculous.

It happened as Ronaldo was chilling with his girlfriend Irina Shayk by the pool the other day. “As a new father, Cristiano Ronaldo might have been expected to have more important things to occupy his time. The footballer, who has a reputation for being in touch with his feminine side, was spotted with black painted toenails as he relaxed on holiday in New York. Judging by his expression, however, he quickly realized the enormity of his fashion faux pas,” the Mail says in a post accompanying a photo with Ronaldo and his black toenails.

All ridicule aside, LaLate underlines that, at the very least, Ronaldo was consistent with his reputation, for the black toenails matched his speedo and the black watch he had on. That is to say, even when he’s wearing close to nothing, he still manages to “accessorize” accordingly. Another thing that the same e-zine underlines is that it’s likely Ronaldo painted his toenails to hide how unsightly they are – after all, he has been photographed before with bunions and his nails in pretty bad shape.

One last aspect that LaLate notes is that, had it not been for Lindsay Lohan and the stunt she pulled in court the other day, with the profanity she had written on the nail of her middle finger, the media would have hardly noticed that Ronaldo had his toenails painted black.
