Cristiano Da Matta is getting better and better after his dreadful accident in the ChampCar World Series test session on the Road America circuit last week. The accident was caused by a deer, who stepped into the circuit. The Brazilian champion failed to control his car after colliding with the deer and suffered serious head injuries.

He was immediately taken to the hospital, where he remained in intensive care for about a week. The doctors
stated that his medical condition was very serious and all the ChampCar fans were skeptical about his full-recovery chances.

The doctors decided to operate him, since he suffered a rupture in one of his blood vessels inside the head. The 32-year old underwent surgery this past weekend and the operation was a success. The doctors agreed that his condition is now stable, despite some inflammation around the brain area.

Just hours after the operation was finalized, his family was right there to join him in the hospital room. They told the media that they're very grateful for the doctors' help and hope that Cristiano gets well soon enough.

"We have been fully briefed about Cristiano's condition, and the hospital staff has been providing us with frequent updates. We are very happy with the care that Cristiano is receiving here at Theda Clark Medical Center, and we are confident that he is getting the best care possible. We will continue to stay here with Cristiano for the foreseeable future, based on his recovery", said the statement form the Da Matta's.

Cristiano Da Matta, winner of the ChampCar series back in 2002, is not certain to return to racing from now on. A future decision on his career will be made after his full recovery, that's likely to happen in a few months.
