Airline spam and phishing campaigns are highly popular among cybercriminals

The latest phishing expedition relies on spam emails allegedly sent by LAN Airlines representatives. The notification claims that the change of flight request has been rejected because the company doesn’t have a contract with Mastercard.

Internet Storm Center (ICS) informs that the phony email requests a VISA credit card number, CVC, expiration date, cardholder name and phone number.

LAN Airlines is a company that operates in South America and the shady notifications have been targeting only users from Columbia so far, but that can easily change at any time.

Initial reports reveal that at least 8 individuals have already provided their credit card details in response to these emails because they had purchased plane tickets from LAN Airlines.

American Airlines scams have been making the rounds in the past several months and our readers still report receiving them, which most likely means that these campaigns are very successful.

Internauts are advised to ignore the requests made in these types of emails and report them to the appropriate company.
