The original creators of the Outcast universe have bought the right to the franchise from publisher Atari and are currently working on plans to bring the series back to life.

Yann Robert, Franck Sauer and Yves Grolet were the founders of developer Appeal and in a press note quoted by Eurogamer they are saying that they have “started the revival of the franchise and will soon announce further developments.”

The original Outcast was launched in 1999 and since then, the franchise has not been re-used for a new title by Atari, which might explain why the company parted with the universe so easily.

It’s unclear whether the trio plans to release a full new game in the series or whether it will first work on a remake of the original for modern players.

Outcast is an action adventure that has been praised for both gameplay and story.
