Even though it could have been better

LittleBigPlanet will probably be remembered by a lot of people as one of the most innovative games of last year. It gave players the opportunity to test out their imagination and create levels for this addictive puzzle platformer title, which could then be shared via the PlayStation Network with other people.

Despite these interesting features, sales didn't really go through the roof, as the unfortunate launch date put the title among the holiday blockbusters in terms of games, like Gears of War 2, Fallout 3 or Resistance 2. But it seems that the companies behind this game, Media Molecule, the developer, and Sony, the publisher, are still confident that, as time goes by, LittleBigPlanet will confirm the hard work it required to be created and will get a profitable momentum in terms of sales.

This fact has been enforced by Media Molecule executive Alex Evans, who talked with IGN about the small puzzle platformer. Evans revealed that because other games were already at their second, third or even fourth iteration meant they appeared more attractive for cost-conscious customers who bought them as they were sure of the experience they would receive. But he is very confident that thanks to the user created levels and the DLC that the development team will launch, like the Metal Gear Solid one, people will buy this game.

“I'm really happy with the sales, because I know how few games turn a profit so quickly. It's a double edged sword. I think a lot of the disappointment comes from hard times and the recession, and then the fact that there was [sic] so many insanely big games that came out at once. There's all these different reasons that you could be disappointed with the sales and look at it that way, or you can say we kept pace with the Fallouts etc. Every other game that we were keeping pace with was a third or fourth iteration, and this is our first one.”

Even though LittleBigPlanet might not be too interesting for a big part of the hardcore gamer market, this title is extremely fun and will definitely appeal to a lot of people looking for a great experience on their PlayStation 3.
