The guy who thought about merchandise and branding for the first time is one of the people to have had a major impact on our present civilization and lifestyle. And if you're still having any doubts about the truth behind the sentence above, let me introduce to you one of the latest projects soon to emerge from the Creative Labs headquarters: the World of Warcraft wireless gaming headset. Not to hit the stores until later this year, this headset explains things very well: if they like one particular thing, let's build an entire world around it (and take their money).

In order to make sure these headphones will be a hit (or at least get close to being one) Creative teamed up with Blizzard (they make the game, in case you're an ignorant guy with no appetite for gaming) and Amazon.com, probably the official retailer of these headphones; together they decided to give the world a sneak preview of what's going to come.

The headset looks really neat, from the rather scarce details the promo photo is offering; the backlit Horde or Alliance glyphs decorating each earcup will definitely sell a lot. And even though not everybody is a fan of this kind of decoration, we must admit that this headset looks truly inspiring and will go well with other WoW-themed gear you might already own. The overall design boasts some edgy surfaces that look a lot like one of the previously released WoW gaming mice (the 15-button one); nevertheless, the other rounded sides make this headset look almost great, especially if we think about the programmable RGB LEDs for the glyphs.

A nifty design but a not-that-cool price: between $100 and $150 for these RGB programmable LED Horde/Alliance headphones.

While these headphones come in both wired and wireless versions, they also sport a detachable microphone and Creative's proprietary VoiceFX technology. Looking closer to the mic, its only way to hook up with the headset is the 3.5 jack, which makes is rather prone to breaking and utter destruction if dropped or handled not so carefully. On the other hand, we're not sure that the voice-altering FX will be that much of a win...

On the tech side, this headset comes with a closed, circumaural design, which means the ear pieces will cover your entire ear, while at the same enhancing the acoustic presence and cutting off a lot of ambient noise. Creative also claims that these headphones come with one of the world’s best virtual 3D audio technologies, courtesy of the THX TruStudio PC Surround system. This may be true, but still, it matters little if we also think about the price: from $100 to $150, which could make a lot of gamers (not the WoW die-hard fans, most likely) ponder between these and some really fancy semi-pro headsets.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there.
