The Creative Assembly might have announced that it was working on a new game based on the Aliens franchise but that does not mean that their main Total War series is being ignored, with a team already working on the initial design stages for a new title.
Mike Simpson, who is the creative director at The Creative Assembly, has talked to Eurogamer about the future of his company and revealed that the company is now working on a new game in the Total War strategy series, suggesting that the team has never stopped working on the franchise.
The developer did not say what period in history the new game will use as background.
He stated, “We’ve actually done work with our hardcore fanbase looking at different eras and which ones they prefer and it’s really flat. As in, it’s really quite evenly split across more or less every proposition we put in front of them.”
Simpson has also talked about the performance of
Total War: Shogun 2, which launched earlier last year, saying, “We’re 90 percent Metacritic, which is exactly where we wanted to hit, and it’s selling great. The original Shogun sold more copies in the second three years of its existence than it did in its first three years. They sell for ages. OK, they’re not all at full price, but comparing one with another.”
Video game publisher SEGA has confirmed that so far the game has sold more than 600,000 copies, which is respectable for a pretty hardcore strategy game that is only launched on the PC.
Given the fact that Shogun 2 uses a whole new game engine the company might be interested in revisiting one of the historical epochs it has already explored in its video games.
Given that we already have a Medieval 2, a logical choice would be to remake Rome: Total War using new technology and new gameplay features.
