Google Docs & Spreadsheets is one of the services powered by the search giant that was often regarded as the solution able to compete with the old-fashioned Microsoft Office. As you know, the product is accessible with a single and free Google account and can be used with ease because Google Docs owns a web-based interface able to enhance the functionality of the service.

Usually, Google Docs was used to create, share and edit documents, allowing the customers to save the files directly on the Google servers. Today, the Google employees are showing another goal of the product that seems to allow users to create word puzzles using a simple grid of squares.

It seems like it all started from a kindergartner and a teacher that managed to create some exciting word search puzzles to share them with the kids. Because they were all curios about the program that created these games, a Google employee replied to them.

"Google Spreadsheets!" I said with honest enthusiasm. "Are you kidding?" he said, with a hopeful grin. So we quickly pulled up his Google Docs & Spreadsheets account (yes, he has one - on his own domain under Google Apps!) and we created a spreadsheet... It was a simple grid of squares. We filled in each box with a single letter until all the words he wanted were there," Jonathan Rochelle, Product Manager Google Docs & Spreadsheets, sustained on the official blog of the company.

As you know, Google Docs & Spreadsheets is an important part of the Google App, a solution also powered by the search giant that is now regarded as the Microsoft Office competitor. Google App is currently available in two flavors, a freeware version and a premium edition able to provide more function for the paying subscribers.
