Crazy Britney Is Totally Asking for It!

...or so thinks the Chief of L.A.P.D.

Once in a while, something happens - something so hilarious and so much to-the-point that I actually have a hard time believing it's real. We live in a world of appearances - smoke and shadow and mirrors all around, and in nine cases out of ten, some things are just... out there, we all know they happen, we all know the reality and yet no one takes the time (either that or no one cares enough) to state it out loud. One relevant example? The whole "Britney Spears under siege by paparazzi" situation. We all know that Britney is definitely not an innocent victim of merciless stalkers, as much as she sings that everybody wants a piece of her. The paparazzi on the other hand can - and do - act as ruthless stalkers on many occasions, often surpassing any limit drawn by common sense and ultimately by self-preservation. The truth is, as usual, somewhere in the middle.

But back to my original point: there are things that are rarely state, but today was an exception to that general rule. William Bratton, the chief of L.A.P.D. decided to respond to the so-called paparazzi law proposed by Councilman Dennis Zine. Basically, the "Britney law" as it was tentatively called aims to protect celebrities from any aggressive behavior that may come from the paparazzi. Chief Bratton's response to this almost made me cry... with laughter. It's absolutely priceless, and quite frankly it tells things as they are. "What we need" he says "is Britney Spears to stay home instead of traipsing all over town. That would solve the problem. We don't need additional laws... I've got laws coming out my ears to deal with this issue". Point taken. But wait - the best part is yet to come.

"What you have is several young women in this town and several young men basically making fools of themselves and tying up not only my resources but the resources of the media that would do better covering legitimate stories instead of a bunch of airheads running around out there... Quite clearly some of these characters so favored by the paparazzi are clearly in need of services. Not police services, but psychiatric services", the Chief also stated. And while you may be tempted to see his point of view as unilateral, the truth is, he is also (rightfully I think) pointing out that the likes of Britney, Paris and Lindsay love media attention and in the vast majority of times, they are asking for all the trouble they get into. And yes, I happen to share the Chief's opinion that psychiatric services are what some (or all) of the aforementioned ladies would need. What do you think?
