Vivendi and Polarbit (creators of Raging Thunder for iPhone) have announced their collaboration to release Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 3D for Apple's iPhone. The new racing title will be made available on the App Store as soon as it's done.

According to touchArcade, Vivendi describes the smartphone version of the racing action title as follows:

The nefarious Nitrous Oxide has joined forces with evil genius Dr. Cortex and his demented side-kick Ripper Roo, in a plot to beat the Bandicoots into submission once and for all, and at long last clear the way for world domination. In order to lure Crash and his gang out in the open, they stage a Kart tournament. The winners will be crowned "Kings Of Kart Racing For All Eternity", the losers will be banished from N. Sanity Island.

Join the zany inhabitants of N-Sanity Island as they slip, slide and skid their way around wild tracks set in environments ranging from the Egyptian desert to Outer Space! Dodge rockets, falling meteorites and boulders as you fight for your place at the top of the podium.

Key features of Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 3D include:

- Stunning, console quality graphics
- Twelve beautifully crafted tracks
- The famous Crash Bandicoot cast of characters
- A host of weapons, items and power-ups
- Fully configurable controls

The game, as you can imagine, is controlled using the iPhone's accelerometer and touchscreen, the latter being mostly used for activating powerups and browsing the menus of the game, while gameplay (steering) is mostly focused on tilting the device left and right. All the Crash elements are there - the apples, the boxes, the tricky shortcuts and the speed-boosters on the tarmac.

A price hasn't been discussed yet but, as most apps making their way onto the App Store are priced at around 10 bucks, we can expect a similar fee for a racing game featuring four cups to play through, each of which has four tracks.

Aside from Apple's iPhone, Vivendi's new Crash game will also be supported on platforms like Series 60, NGI, and Brew, Polarbit notes on its website.

A demonstration video of the game in action is available below:
